WELCOME!

I am a senior lecturer at The University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand. I teach courses in Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Chemistry and Geochemistry.
My main research themes are honey, bees, food chemistry and trace element analysis. My research focuses on making a difference and many research projects that I am involved in are carried out for industry.
When I'm not living and breathing research, you can find me taking photos, spending time at the beach, out in my garden or doing yoga.

MY RESEARCH

Making a difference using science

I have  a number of research streams which broadly fall into the following categories.

HONEY

I have a long held interest in mānuka honey. I have been involved in various projects including isolating MGO, creating a forecast model to predict the concentration of MGO in honey as it ages, C4 sugar adulteration, analysis of compounds in honey.

My latest research is includes looking at New Zealand native monofloral honeys.

TRACE ELEMENT ANALYSIS

Analysis of trace elements and heavy metals in food, animals and the environment

FOOD ANALYSIS

The land of milk and honey, plus throw in a bit of whiskey and you have quite a combination.

My research spans a wide range of areas including developing new methods for analyte quantification and analysis of compounds.

BEES

My latest research is investigating the effect of heavy metals on bees
